In Hosapete, Vijayanagara, the transport department has intensified its enforcement against school and college vehicles that violate safety norms, booking 103 vehicles during a recent drive and recovering Rs 11. 8 lakh in taxes and penalties.

The Central Pollution Control Board has directed the closure of Kalyani Steels Limited at Ginigera, Koppal, for allegedly violating environmental norms. Following the directive, Deputy Commissioner Suresh Itnal ordered the disconnection of the factory's electricity supply, bringing its operations to a halt. It is alleged that the factory had been functioning in violation of environmental regulations, making it difficult for local residents to sustain their livelihoods.

The Karnataka government is set to organise a major tourism workshop at Hampi on July 9 and 10, bringing together ministers, senior officials, tourism experts, industry stakeholders and district representatives to identify and develop destinations that can be transformed into globally recognised tourism hubs.
