Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has commissioned the Transmission Scheme for the integration of the Renewable Energy Zone (Phase-II) in Karnataka, effective 23 October 2026. The project, which covers Koppal-II (Phase-A and B) and Gadag-II (Phase-A), has received the notification for its date of commercial operation (DOCO). The scheme was originally entrusted to POWERGRID Koppal Gadag Transmission Limited (PKGTL), which was amalgamated with POWERGRID Khavda II-C Transmission Limited effective 1 March 2026 following an order by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
The infrastructure includes a 765/400 kV substation with 2×1500 MVA capacity and a 400/220 kV substation with 2×500 MVA capacity at Koppal-II (Phase-A). Additionally, a 400/220 kV, 2×500 MVA pooling station has been established at Gadag-II (Phase-A). These facilities are designed to evacuate renewable energy generated in the region. The transmission network comprises three lines: a 765 kV double-circuit (D/C) line from the Koppal-II Power Station to Narendra (New), a 765 kV D/C line connecting the Koppal-II Power Station to Raichur, and a 400 kV (Quad Moose) D/C line linking the Gadag-II Power Station to the Koppal-II Power Station.
The scheme also involves the augmentation of 2×1500 MVA, 765/400 kV inter-connecting transformers (ICTs) and 2×500 MVA, 400/220 kV ICTs at the Koppal-II Power Station. Furthermore, it includes the extension of the 765 kV Narendra gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation and the 765 kV Raichur substation, along with associated bay extensions.
