A popular center of Kalyana Chalukya architecture, Lakkundi is being considered for inclusion in the circuit of Hampi.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced that a proposal has been submitted to the Government of India for the inclusion of Lakkundi in the Hampi Circuit.
It is currently a village in the Gadag District of Karnataka, India, and was once a major city known as Lokkugundi before the 14th century. Having been established as a major economic and commerce center in the 10th century, it operated mint operations for South India.
Lakkundi is a historical town that was once the capital of the Hoysalas, and it is famous for its many ancient temples, inscriptions, and other historical monuments. Some of the notable temples in Lakkundi include the Kasi Vishwanatha Temple, the Brahma Jinalaya Temple, and Nanesvara Temple. The town is also known for its beautiful carvings and intricate architecture.
