Preparations are currently underway to introduce a night safari at Hampi Zoo, located in the Vijayanagar district of Karnataka, a renowned historical tourist spot. With a sprawling area of 350 acres and an additional 700-acre forest area, the zoo is gearing up to offer visitors an exciting nocturnal wildlife experience.
If all goes according to plan, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Zoological Park, popularly known as Hampi Zoo in Kamalapur, Hampi, will soon launch its highly anticipated night safari. This unique initiative is set to make history in the state of Karnataka, with Hampi Zoo being the first to introduce such an exciting experience under the guidance of Hegs.
During a recent visit to the zoo, Ravi BP, Member Secretary of the Karnataka Additional Chief Conservator of Forests and Zoo Authority in Mysore, hinted at the possibility of introducing a night safari. This development comes in response to the high temperatures experienced in the Hospet and Hampi areas.
The Central Zoo Authority has raised the question of conducting a night safari in the zoo and is currently working on establishing guidelines for the initiative. Ravi further emphasized the need to organize a national-level workshop in Hampi prior to implementing the night safari.
According to the report, Hampi Zoo boasts a well-equipped wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center, which has successfully treated and released 20 injured wild bears back into their natural habitat.
Spanning across 350 acres with an additional 700 acres of forest area, Hampi Zoo has no plans to extend its premises to cover the entire forest land. Instead, the remaining land will be preserved as a buffer zone.
In order to transform Hampi Zoo into a premier facility, it has been suggested that an investment of 60 crore rupees should be allocated exclusively to the existing 350-acre land. This strategic allocation of funds can pave the way for significant improvements and upgrades, enhancing the zoo’s overall appeal and functionality.
