The historic town of Hampi is set to host the Hampi Utsav, a grand cultural festival, from February 28 to March 2, 2025. Organized annually by the Government of Karnataka, this event celebrates the rich heritage of the Vijayanagara Empire and is a cornerstone of the state’s cultural calendar.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate this year’s festivities on February 28. The event, spanning three days, will highlight Karnataka’s history through a blend of traditional and modern performances. Housing Minister and Ballari District In-charge Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan announced the dates following discussions with the Chief Minister. Deputy Commissioner Divakar has been entrusted with overseeing the preparations to ensure a memorable celebration.
Showcasing the Legacy of the Vijayanagara Empire
The Hampi Utsav, also known as Vijaya Utsava, has roots tracing back to the grand Vasantotsava of the Vijayanagara era. Set against the stunning ruins of Hampi, the festival features a variety of cultural activities, including traditional music, dance, and theatre performances. It also offers competitions such as rock climbing, rural sports, photography, and vibrant fairs showcasing Karnataka’s handicrafts and cuisine.
Unlike last year’s festival, which took place in early February, this year’s event is scheduled later to ensure more comfortable weather. Most activities will occur in the evenings, providing a pleasant experience for visitors.
With the Chief Minister inaugurating the festivities, Hampi Utsav 2025 promises to honor the grandeur of its past while celebrating the cultural vibrancy of present-day Karnataka.
