In a recent incident, a 66-year-old woman named Sittamma lost her life, and 35 individuals were hospitalized in Kariganur of Hosapete city due to consuming contaminated water.
District in-charge Minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan took swift action by suspending three officials, including the commissioner of the Hosapete City Municipal Council. The unfortunate event occurred on Sunday, prompting Minister Khan to identify Town Municipality Commissioner Bandi Vaddar, Assistant Executive Engineer Satish, and Junior Engineer Khaji for suspension.
The incident unfolded in Kariganur Ward of Hospet Town Municipality in Vijayanagar district, Bengaluru. Minister Khan emphasized the need for a thorough inquiry into the matter and issued directives to prevent such occurrences in the future.
Additionally, he urged officials to prioritize the maintenance of the drinking water supply, underground drainage system, and overall cleanliness. As the investigation unfolds, 21 out of the 35 affected individuals have been discharged. M S Divakara, the deputy commissioner of Vijayanagara, confirmed Sittamma’s demise due to consuming the contaminated water.
He mentioned that the district in-charge minister has instructed him to submit a detailed report, and efforts are ongoing to trace the source of water contamination.
