During the 2018 election in Karnataka, the Congress party won with a narrow majority against the BJP. Anand Singh contested from the Vijayanagara constituency as a candidate of the Congress party at that time. In the current election, the BJP and Congress are once again contesting from this constituency, with the addition of AAP as a new player in the race.
The constituency consists of 18 village clusters and two subdivisions, totaling six divisions. During the 2018 assembly elections, Congress won with a 72.47% turnout and an 8,228 vote margin of victory. Anand Singh secured the seat with 83,214 votes while BJP’s H R Gaviyappa received 74,986 votes.
As the 2023 Election draws near, all eyes are on the three major political parties contesting from the constituency. While the Congress party won the seat in the 2018 election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is determined to win this time around. Additionally, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also in the race, making it a three-way competition. With the campaigning in full swing, it remains to be seen which party will have the upper hand in this crucial election.
The Vijayanagara Assembly constituency is one of the 224 legislative assembly constituencies in Karnataka. It was recently formed as the 31st district of the state after being carved out of Bellary. The constituency is notable for being the home of Hampi, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
