A father-son pair, identified as Mirza Syed Baig, aged 23, and Mirza Dada Nooruddin, aged 53, hailing from Kampli in Ballari, was apprehended by Madanayakanahalli police on Monday on theft charges.
Baig, employed as a cleaner at an elderly care facility owned by the complainant residing in Kadabagere, Bengaluru, seized an opportunity on April 9. Observing the complainant counting a substantial sum of cash intended for property purchase, Baig, driven by greed, enlisted his ailing father’s help. They targeted the complainant’s residence in her absence, located in Banashankari during Ugadi celebrations.
Exploiting the absence of the homeowner, they executed the theft of both jewellery and cash. To deter investigators, they strategically scattered chilli powder at the scene. However, their escape plan was thwarted by law enforcement as they attempted to flee to Ballari.
The police successfully recovered 1.25 kg of gold ornaments, 2 kg of silver items, and Rs 21.5 lakh cash from the suspects.
