Kalaghat land survey: Could it house a future sugar factory?

Efforts to locate suitable land for the establishment of a sugar factory in Hospet (Vijaynagara) have commenced, with MLA H.R. Gaviyappa and farmer leaders conducting a site visit near Nagenahalli of the taluk. The available government land in Kalaghatta has been assessed, revealing 17 acres on one side, 9 acres on the other, and an additional 2 acres on the opposite side.

Many farmer leaders accompanying the MLAs have suggested that this area holds significant potential for the establishment of a modern sugar factory, a residential complex, and related facilities. They also noted that private land is available for purchase if more land is needed to facilitate the project.

The region’s cultivation of sugarcane and the option to transport it to the factory via bullock cart make this location particularly favorable for such an endeavor, as pointed out by CPM leader Bhaskara Reddy.

In a separate development, MLA Gaviyappa performed a Bhoomi Puja for the construction of Raitha Bhavan in the city, emphasizing the importance of providing housing for the underprivileged in government-owned land in Jambunath village. However, it was reiterated that the 84 acres of government land in that area cannot be allocated to Hampi Sugars.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed support for the idea of establishing a sugar factory in Hospet, citing the presence of affluent individuals in the region who could potentially spearhead this initiative.

Various prominent figures, including Kichadi Lakshman, President M.J. Jogaiah, former President of Raitha Sangh Uttangi Kotresh, and others, were present during these developments.
