Hot air balloon rides set to resume in Hampi with safety and heritage protocols

The Vijayanagara district administration and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) have approved a luxury resort to relaunch hot air balloon rides around Hampi. The service, which will resume on November 1, 2024, and run until March 31, 2025, offers visitors breathtaking aerial views of the region’s unique landscape and lush banana plantations.

While the balloon rides promise a memorable experience, conservation groups have expressed concerns about their proximity to Hampi’s monuments during previous operations. The administration has assured that strict ASI guidelines will be followed, allowing only one flight per day and prohibiting entry into restricted zones. “Any violation of the norms will lead to immediate cancellation of permissions,” stated Vijayanagar Deputy Commissioner MS Divakar.

Vishwanath Malagi, president of the Hampi Monuments Protection Association, emphasized the need for caution, citing a prior incident involving a gas cylinder near the Virupaksha Temple. He urged authorities to ensure that safety measures remain a top priority throughout the operations.

The balloon rides aim to provide an unparalleled way to appreciate the beauty of Hampi, combining scenic vistas with strict adherence to heritage preservation protocols.
