A coke-making facility and a captive power plant driven by waste heat recovery (WHR) have been put into operation next to Kalyan Steels’ steel factory at Ginigera on Hospet Road in the Koppal district of Karnataka.
A commercial operation of the business began on March 31, 2023, and produced the coke oven plant’s utilities, auxiliary equipment, and other components. Manufacturing has already reached the planned capacity and is producing products of a standard level of quality. The power plant’s turbine generator, with all the BOPs and one of the two boilers, has also been put into service. Soon, the second boiler included in the steam circuit will be put into service.
The business intended to build a 17–18 MW captive power station that would run on the waste heat energy of flue gas produced by the coke oven, as well as a 2,00,000 tpa non-recovery/heat recovery, stamp charged coke oven with modified wet quenching of hot coke.
The electrical power generated in this way must be used internally; any excess must be sold to other organizations.
In accordance with the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” program, the indigenous coke-making technology has been updated to include all of the most recent developments for a high level of technical performance and product quality.
