The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for heatwave conditions in 17 districts of Karnataka including Ballari & Vijayanagara, effective until May 2, 2024. Hot winds are anticipated to sweep across many parts of the state during this period.
The districts under the orange alert for Heatwave warning include Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Yadagiri, Raichur, Bagalkote, Belagavi, Gadag, Haveri, Koppal, Ballari, Vijayanagar, Davangere, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Kolar, and Chikkaballapura.
Coastal regions, especially Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi are also expected to bear the brunt of rising temperatures. The IMD predicts a potential rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius from current levels, intensifying the already challenging heat conditions.
Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe and cool during the anticipated heatwave. Authorities urge citizens to stay hydrated, minimize prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and seek shelter in well-ventilated areas when possible as the state prepares for the impending hot spell.
