The Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS), nestled in the village of Kudatini in Bellary, soared to new heights in the fiscal year 2023-24, generating an impressive 8,208.476 MU. This monumental achievement marks the pinnacle of its performance since its inception, underscoring its exceptional growth and operational prowess.
K. J. George, Karnataka’s Energy Minister, heralded the state’s thermal power plants’ unprecedented performance, setting new benchmarks and bolstering confidence in meeting escalating power demands during the scorching summer months.
Highlighting the exemplary dedication and proficiency of the Energy Department’s workforce, George emphasized proactive measures undertaken to tackle rising energy needs. With seven units collectively contributing over 85% of the total power generated, despite encountering various technical challenges, the Minister praised their reliability in meeting regional power requirements.
Gaurav Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of Energy, echoed this sentiment, noting that the surplus power generated has not only fulfilled demand but also instilled confidence among operational officials.
George pointed out that on April 4, each of the three units at Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) demonstrated robust infrastructure and operational prowess by collectively generating 216 MW of power, surpassing expectations.
Attributing RTPS’s success to the abundant availability of coal from multiple mines, including those in Maharashtra and the Singareni Coal mines, George stressed the importance of uninterrupted fuel supply.
He further highlighted the achievements of Yermarus Thermal Power Station (YTPS) and Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS), which have recorded their highest generation since inception, showcasing their operational efficiency and resilience.
Moreover, George underscored the strategic storage of water reserves in the Gurjapur barrage, ensuring uninterrupted power generation despite potential water supply disruptions.
In conclusion, George affirmed that with the plants consistently surpassing expectations, stakeholders can be assured of reliable and sustainable power generation, thus fostering positive contributions to the region’s economic growth and development.
