A special team of Ballari, Karnataka police detained two brothers on Tuesday and seized a large stock of processed ganja worth approximately ₹2 crore from their residence in Santhekudluru village, Adoni mandal, Kurnool district.
The Ballari police took some youths into custody on charges of ganja peddling. During interrogation, it was revealed that the youths sourced the ganja from siblings Ravi and Chandra, both in their 30s, based in Adoni.
A raid on their property showed that the duo cultivated ganja in their mirchi field, extending their operations beyond Andhra Pradesh to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. A case was registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
Ballari SP Ranjitha Kumar Bandaru announced at a press conference held at the SP office that 55 kg of ganja, worth ₹27.50 lakh, was seized and five individuals were arrested. Initial arrests included Mohammad Muzakir and S. Rizwan, residents of Kaulabazar, who were selling ganja near Jagriti Nagar Bridge on the bypass road. They disclosed that the ganja was sourced from Andhra.
Further interrogation of R. Amir from Kurnool district and B. Arvind Surya Narayan from Alur led to the arrest of S. Ravi from Sante Kudlur village, where 55 kg of ganja was found in his house. The ganja was reportedly being transported from Kurnool and Adoni districts of Andhra.
The seized ganja was being sold to youth and workers in the city. The district has also seen recent theft cases, prompting further action. A case was registered at Kaulabazar police station, and cash rewards were given to officials involved in the operation.
Additionally, a case was registered against six officials, including a safety manager and a supervisor, in connection with three recent deaths in Jindal.
