MLA H.R. Gaviyappa has instructed the District Officer to identify a location for establishing a sugar mill in the vicinity of Hosapete in Vijayanagara district. Speaking to the media on Monday, the MLA stated that one or two potential sites have already been marked. He announced that consultations with local farmers and representatives from various political parties will be held immediately after the Diwali festival concludes.
Gaviyappa also revealed that a request has already been submitted to the Chief Minister to cancel the government land lease extension granted to the Rajbasha Sugar and Nuts Company (RBSNC). He emphasized that further pressure will be exerted on this issue, noting that the District In-charge Minister is fully supportive of these efforts.
District In-charge Minister K.S. Basavappa confirmed that the establishment of the sugar mill is definite. He stated that the MLA has convened a meeting to gather opinions from all stakeholders before proceeding. Basavappa added that he will join the MLA in attempting to revoke the lease granted to RBSNC.
Addressing the recent increase in milk prices, the minister justified the hike by stating that the majority of the additional funds will be passed on to farmers. He explained that while consumers will bear a slight burden, the price increase was necessary because neighboring states had already raised their rates.
