A man allegedly murdered his father, mother, and sister and buried their bodies inside their rented house in Kottur town of Vijayanagara district.
The accused has been identified as Akshay Kumar. The deceased are his father Bhimaraj (50), mother Jayalakshmi alias Jayamma (45), and sister Amrutha (17).
According to police, the brutal murders took place around three days ago at the family’s rented house in L B Colony on Harapanahalli Road in Kottur. After killing his family members, Akshay allegedly buried their bodies inside the same house in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The family originally hailed from Nayakanahatti village in Chitradurga district and had been living in Kottur for several years due to work-related reasons.
After committing the crime, the accused reportedly travelled to Bengaluru and approached the Tilak Nagar Police Station to file a missing persons complaint about his own family members. His suspicious behaviour during questioning alerted the police.
During further interrogation, Akshay allegedly confessed to murdering his parents and sister and burying them inside the house. Based on his confession, police initiated an investigation and inspected the crime scene in Kottur.
Police sources confirmed that lethal weapons were used in the murders. They also stated that the accused claimed the bodies were later thrown into a canal near Sandur, a statement that is being thoroughly verified as part of the investigation.
Vijayanagara Superintendent of Police S Jahnavi, Kudligi DySP Mallesh Doddmani, Circle Inspector, along with dog squad and fingerprint experts, visited the spot and are carrying out a detailed probe.
SP Jahnavi told TNIE that following the complaint filed in Bengaluru, police inspected the house where the murders occurred and gathered crucial evidence.
The motive behind the triple murder is yet to be ascertained. The accused is being brought back from Bengaluru to Kottur for further questioning. Kottur police have intensified the investigation and are examining all possible angles in the case.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the district, with residents expressing disbelief over the brutal act committed within the confines of a family home.
