The Kaggalipur police have arrested a man who allegedly blackmailed young women by connecting with them through apps, collecting their photos on the pretext of offering work-from-home jobs, and later obscenely editing those images. Following a complaint filed by a young woman, police traced and arrested a youth from Ballari, uncovering that he had similarly targeted several others.
The arrested accused has been identified as Shivashankar, a native of Ballari and currently residing in Malleshwaram, Bengaluru. Police said he approached young women through an app, promising them online job opportunities, collected their photos, and later morphed them to threaten and blackmail them.
Kaggalipur woman targeted
A few days ago, a young woman from Kaggalipur on the outskirts of Bengaluru came into contact with Shivashankar, who promised her employment. He reportedly collected ₹500, her photograph, and some documents. He later obscenely edited her photo and sent it to her acquaintances to harass her. Disturbed by the incident, the woman complained, based on which the Kaggalipur police arrested him.
Accused linked to multiple cases
Shivashankar, who previously worked as a courier and Ola bike driver in Bengaluru, is believed to have contacted several young women through the same app. Many were allegedly deceived under the guise of work-from-home job offers. Police have urged the public, especially young women, to remain cautious of such individuals. The accused, who reportedly exploited women’s trust to harass them, has now been taken into custody.
