Kamalapur MLA H.R. Gaviyappa announced that a grant of Rs 15 crore has been sanctioned for the overall development of the town. He was speaking at the inauguration of the new Kamalapur Municipality office near Ambedkar Circle on Friday, where he emphasized the need to deliver public services efficiently and conveniently.
The new municipal office, constructed with a Rs 1.80 crore grant facilitated by former Minister Anand Singh, has been designed as a well-equipped facility. Gaviyappa said that Kamalapur’s administration and representatives have always been progressive, and the new building stands as a valuable asset for future generations. Development works, including upgrades to the drinking water and sewage systems, are also underway, he added.
The MLA stated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has allocated special grants of Rs 50 to 80 crore for each constituency, under which Rs 15 crore has been released for Kamalapur. Development work is set to commence within a month. Additionally, Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for constructing a food court at the old bus stand, pending approval from the Central Archaeological Department. Given Kamalapur’s proximity to Hampi, tourism development remains a priority, he said, urging public cooperation for the town’s progress.
Deputy Commissioner Kavita S. Mannikeri, speaking at the event, said that Kamalapur was once part of the Vijayanagara Empire’s grandeur and should now develop in the same spirit.
Earlier, a bike rally was held from Kamalapura Lake via Krishnadevaraya Circle and Ambedkar Circle. The new office was inaugurated by MP Tukaram in the presence of Sandur MLA Annapurna, Municipal President Amina, SC S. Jahnavi, District Urban Development Fund Project Director Manohar, and other dignitaries including D.B. Iranna, H. Gopalakrishna, Ajay Kumar, and several council members.
