The Karnataka government’s Gruha Jyothi scheme, offering free electricity up to 200 units per month, has completed two years. Implemented under the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company Limited (GESCOM), the scheme has benefitted more than 21.41 lakh households across its jurisdiction.
As of July 31, 2025, Ballari recorded 2,86,446 registrations with 2,77,698 active beneficiaries, while Koppal saw 2,77,905 registrations and 2,75,517 active beneficiaries, both districts showing near-total coverage. Overall, 21,94,217 consumers have registered, with 14,08,767 getting zero bills and 7,32,847 falling under the Net Bill category. Collectively, beneficiaries consumed 2,453.51 million units worth ₹2,327.42 crore, saving the entire amount.
GESCOM covers Kalaburagi, Ballari, Bidar, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayanagar, and Yadgir districts. Managing Director Krishna Bajpai said the scheme has been effectively implemented and praised officials for their efforts, adding that more households will be brought under the scheme in the coming days.
