A tragic incident near Gunda forest in Hosapete, Vijayanagara district, claimed the lives of seven individuals, including a five-year-old child, in a devastating road accident on the National Highway on Monday.

According to initial reports from authorities, a SUV, traveling from Harapanahalli to Hosapete, collided with an oncoming truck that had somehow crossed the road divider. The collision was followed by a tipper truck rear-ending the SUV, resulting in the tragic demise of all seven occupants.

Among the victims, four hailed from Ukkadakeri in Hosapete, while the remaining three were from Sandur taluk in Ballari district. They were returning from a temple visit at Kulalli in Harapanahalli taluk after performing a ritual when the accident occurred around 4 p.m.

The deceased have been identified as follows: Kenchavva (60 years old), Bhagyamma (32 years old), Gonibasappa (55 years old), Girija (45 years old), Bhimalingappa (60 years old), Anil (28 years old), and five-year-old Evan.

Both truck drivers also sustained injuries in the accident.

Superintendent of Police Shrihari Babu B.L. swiftly arrived at the scene and oversaw the rescue efforts.

Regarding the incident, Mr. Babu stated, “The SUV carrying the victims was struck by two trucks, one from the front and the other from the rear. In the preliminary investigation, the driver of the truck that crossed the road divider and collided with the SUV reported that the steering wheel of his vehicle suddenly malfunctioned, rendering him unable to control the truck. It appears that a mechanical issue may have been responsible for the accident. The driver himself sustained injuries and has been hospitalized.”
