Bedbug infestation has plagued the Government Hostel for Scheduled Caste post‑matric students in Koppal for several months, prompting many residents to flee. Despite prior cleaning of each room, the problem persisted, leading to the arrival of workers from Chennai and a notice that experts would be sent.
A notice posted on the hostel’s board announced that specialists would arrive to eradicate the bedbugs. The facility houses hundreds of students, who were granted leave for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival; the holiday ended on Monday, when they were expected to return, but many remained absent because cleaning work was unfinished.
