Young couple from Ballari end their lives by consuming poison after families oppose marriage

A tragic incident has unfolded involving two young lovers, Raja (23) and Pavitra (20), from Siraguppa town in Ballari. Despite being in a committed relationship for several years and wishing to marry, their families opposed the union. This resistance, fueled by entrenched caste rituals, drove the couple to make a tragic decision. Faced with persistent societal and familial opposition to their love, they took a drastic and irreversible step.

On the outskirts of Siraguppa town, the couple went to a farm on Siruguppa-Adoni road. After discussing their situation and their families’ refusal to accept their marriage, they decided to end their lives. They consumed poison and died at the farm.

The bodies were discovered by farmers early in the morning. Upon finding the bodies, it was noted that Raja and Pavitra had succumbed to the poison, with one of them reportedly begging for water before passing away. Siraguppa Thane Police arrived at the scene, conducted their investigation, and sent the bodies to the government hospital for further examination.
