A sudden wolf attack on a sheepfold near Somalapur village on Monday evening resulted in the death of 10 sheep and 3 rams belonging to Nayakara Lingappa.
The incident has led to an estimated loss of ₹1.20 lakh. The sheep owner has appealed for compensation.
Villagers said the wolf had been spotted near the outskirts for the past few days and have urged the forest department to take immediate action to capture it.
“Dr. Pradeep Kumar from the veterinary clinic in Metri will visit the site on Tuesday and assess the situation. His report will be forwarded to higher authorities,” said K.U. Basavaraj, the chief veterinary officer of the town’s animal husbandry hospital.
