Wildfire reported on hill near Tungabhadra dam

A wildfire broke out on a hill near the Tungabhadra Dam on Wednesday evening, prompting swift action from firefighters and forest personnel working to douse the flames.

The fire erupted on a hill adjacent to the Vijayapura-Chitradurga highway, separate from the one housing the Vaikuntha Guest House and a wind turbine on the right bank of the Tungabhadra reservoir. Another wind turbine operates on the affected hill. As strong winds turn the blades of the turbine, the blaze can be seen flickering from the highway and other distant spots.

“This area doesn’t fall under forest department limits, but it does have wild animals. Our teams, along with fire personnel, are actively working to control the situation and ensure the animals are safe. It seems to be a case of deliberate ignition. However, the fire is under control and there’s no cause for alarm,” Deputy Conservator of Forests Arsalan informed the media.
