A tragic incident unfolded in Kudligi taluk of Vijayanagar district, where a 26-year-old man named B Madhuswamy took his own life by consuming poison. The young resident of Gudekote village had faced multiple rejections in his pursuit of finding a suitable bride. The woman declined his marriage proposals, citing concerns about his father’s alleged inappropriate behavior.
On January 5, the situation took a tragic turn when Madhuswamy ingested poison, resulting in unconsciousness. Villagers provided immediate first aid before transporting him to the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Ballari. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Madhuswamy passed away on Monday evening.
Despite persistent efforts over several months, Madhuswamy’s inability to secure a marital alliance weighed heavily on him, leading him to turn to alcohol as a coping mechanism. Despite the well-intentioned attempts of relatives to encourage him to give up alcohol and focus on his well-being, Madhuswamy succumbed to despair.
The family, devastated by the loss, has asserted in their police statement that they do not suspect any foul play in the case. The necessary formalities will be completed, and the body will be handed over to the grieving family.
This heartbreaking incident brings to mind similar cases reported in Uttara Kannada last year, where individuals facing challenges in finding employment or securing a life partner resorted to taking their own lives. These instances underscore the critical need for mental health support and intervention in society.
