Two die by suicide in Tungabhadra canal, bodies found after 2-day search

Two youngsters ended their lives by jumping into the Tungabhadra Left Bank Canal. The deceased have been identified as Praveen Kumar (18) from Hosa Lingapura village in Koppal taluk and Anjali (18) from Sanapur in Gangavati taluk.

The couple, who had been in a relationship for the past year, reportedly faced opposition from their families. Though they had initially eloped, family members later persuaded them to return, assuring that their marriage would be arranged. However, fearing the consequences or possible betrayal, the couple took a drastic step.

On Wednesday, as they were being brought back home, Praveen and Anjali asked the driver to stop the vehicle under the pretext of needing to use the toilet. Instead, they jumped into the canal. Their bodies were recovered on Friday near Shivapura Lake, close to the Bhoruka Power Plant Centre.

According to police, a dupatta was found tied around both their hands, indicating that they had jumped together. A search operation was conducted for two days by the police and Fire and Emergency Services, with assistance from residents.

A case has been registered at Munirabad Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
