Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to expedite the development of Anjanadri Hill in Koppal district, widely revered as the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. Chairing a high-level meeting with Tourism Minister H.K. Patil and senior officials on Wednesday, he emphasized the need to enhance facilities for devotees, highlighting the site’s mythological, spiritual, and tourism significance.
The CM noted that lakhs of pilgrims, including visitors from Maharashtra and North India, flock to the temple, particularly during Hanuman Jayanti. However, the lack of basic amenities such as dormitories, community halls, and proper access for senior citizens climbing nearly 600 steps has posed difficulties. He instructed officials to provide accommodation, construct a circumambulation path, and create other tourist-friendly infrastructure.
Although works worth ₹200 crore were sanctioned under two phases, only ₹10 crore has been released so far. Siddaramaiah said the Finance Department must provide additional grants to execute the projects and to acquire 101.30 acres of private land, including 77.28 acres already proposed, which could not be purchased due to a lack of funds.
Since several of the sanctioned projects fall under the Forest Department’s jurisdiction, he also directed officials to secure the necessary NOC to proceed with development activities.
As part of the 2024–25 state budget, ropeways are planned at 11 tourist destinations, including Anjanadri Hill, under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The earlier BJP government had prepared plans for a Yatri Nivas, Bhojana Shala, shopping complexes, parking, road widening, and ropeway facilities, but most remain on paper.
The temple, which has been administered by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department since 2018, continues to attract thousands of devotees each day. Situated across the Tungabhadra River and linked with the mythological Kishkinda, the hill is also famed for its panoramic views, striking sunsets, and rocky landscapes.
