Rafting suspended in Hampi after water release from Tungabhadra Dam

Rafting on the Tungabhadra River at Chakratirtha in Hampi has been suspended with immediate effect. All rafts have been brought ashore, and Home Guard personnel have been deployed at the site.

Following the heavy discharge of water from the Tungabhadra Dam, the water level in the Chakratirtha area had risen significantly. Several tourists had raised safety concerns, terming rafting there as risky.

Meanwhile, with the inflow into the Tungabhadra River decreasing on Sunday, only two crest gates remain open instead of six, releasing 5,980 cusecs of water. This has slightly reduced the water flow in the Chakratirtha stretch. However, officials said rafting would remain unsafe until all the crest gates are closed and the water pressure stabilizes.
