Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman sustained a minor injury after a curtain rod fell on her head during her visit to Methagall village in Koppal district on Wednesday.
The incident occurred when Sitharaman was leaving a temporary restroom set up by the district administration ahead of the inauguration of the Farmers’ Training and Common Facility Centre. The steel rod used for hanging curtains accidentally fell, hitting her head. The minister, visibly in pain, sat inside the makeshift room for a few minutes to recover.
Even while attending the stage programme later, she was seen rubbing her forehead. She had been scheduled to attend another event at Chilawadagi village, but canceled it and proceeded to Hosapete instead.
Sitharaman is on a three-day visit to Karnataka. On Tuesday, she inaugurated an incubation center at the Indian Institute of Science campus in Dharwad. On Thursday, she is set to travel from Hampi to Raichur and Ballari districts to inaugurate farmers’ training centers and common facility units for agro-processing.
The Union Minister also had to wait a few minutes to inaugurate the Methagall training center as the Gram Panchayat president, Ambamma Shrikanth Hulasanhatti, was absent. She was represented at the event by her husband.
