In a disturbing incident at Toranagal in Sandur taluk, a woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her two-month-old daughter by throwing her into a canal on Saturday.
The accused, Priyanka (32), originally from Bihar and residing in Toranagal, initially told her husband and police that the baby had been abducted. However, CCTV footage and investigation confirmed that she herself had carried the child and thrown her into the canal.
According to police sources, Priyanka’s husband works as a labourer with Jindal, and the couple had migrated from Bihar for work. They have three daughters, including the deceased infant. During questioning, Priyanka reportedly admitted to the act, citing ill health and inability to care for the child as the reason.
Police have launched a search to trace the baby’s body. A case has been filed at Toranagal Police Station, and investigation is in progress.
