A significant operation to install a temporary gate at the damaged 19th crest gate of the Tungabhadra reservoir commenced on Thursday. Engineers and specialists used cranes to start the replacement process.
Named ‘Operation A’, the work began in the afternoon and continued into the evening. However, due to measurement discrepancies between the new and old gates, the team paused the operation to address the issues and plan to resume on Friday.
Vijayanagar In-Charge Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan visited the site on Thursday to encourage the workers. He praised their efforts and announced a personal reward of ₹50,000 for each worker involved in the operation.
The completion of this operation is vital to prevent further damage to the reservoir and safeguard downstream communities.
