The Ballari Mayoral election, originally set to be held on Tuesday, was unexpectedly delayed at the last minute for undisclosed reasons. Members of the municipal body, irrespective of political affiliations, criticized the sudden postponement, labeling it as the influence of certain vested interests. D. Triveni, who held the position of Mayor for a duration of eight months, stepped down from the role, prompting the need for Mayoral elections.
The voting was scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., but was delayed as Regional Commissioner (Kalaburagi) and Returning Officer Krishna Bajpai did not arrive at the election venue. Following an hour of waiting, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Zuber abruptly declared the postponement of the election citing “some reasons.”
Mr. Zuber did not disclose the reason for the election delay and simply mentioned that they would be notified later. He informed the media that the election was postponed following the instructions of the Regional Commissioner.
Mr. Bajpai, Regional Commissioner, issued an official statement citing “unspecified reasons” for postponing the planned election and has rescheduled it for December 19.
