Man murdered in Hosapete over old feud; accused shot during arrest

A 30-year-old man was killed late Wednesday night in Ambedkar Nagar, 4th Cross, Jambunath Road, Hosapete, reportedly due to a long-standing personal enmity.

The victim, identified as Honnur, also known as Honnur Swamy, was allegedly attacked by 36-year-old Kaali, alias Huchcha Kaali.

Police said the accused first tried to stab Honnur with two knives, both of which broke during the attack. He then used a heavy stone to strike the victim fatally on the head.

Sources say the two shared a troubled history, including an attempted murder case around six years ago. Honnur, residing in Davanagere, had returned to Hosapete for the Jambunath Jatra when the incident occurred.

On Thursday morning, while attempting to apprehend the accused, police opened fire after he allegedly attacked the officers during the weapon recovery operation.

Sub-Inspector Hulugappa, who is leading the case, fired in response after the accused reportedly assaulted Head Constable Lingaraj and Constable Kotraesh near Mahadev Industries, on the outskirts of Hosapete.

The accused was injured in the police action and is receiving treatment at the Hosapete Government Hospital.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Sriharibabu B.L., Additional SP Saleem Pasha, and DSP Dr. Manjunath Talawar visited the site and are overseeing the investigation.
