A display of honesty in Hospet, Vijayanagara district, has earned a man recognition after he returned a bag containing gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs, found on a bus.
Raghavendra, a resident of Malapanagudi in Hospet taluk, discovered the bag containing three gold chains weighing 45 grams, gold earrings weighing 5 grams, three gold rings totaling 10 grams, a silver bracelet weighing 80 grams, and a goddess idol.
The bag belonged to an elderly man named Shegadi from Huvina Hadagali, who was traveling to his son’s house by bus. Shegadi accidentally left the bag behind when he got off near the Hospet checkpost. At the same time, Raghavendra, who was at the bus stop to collect a courier, was handed the bag by an unidentified passenger who then left.
Raghavendra waited for 30 minutes at the bus stop, hoping the bag’s owner would return. When no one came, he opened the bag and discovered the valuables. Without hesitation, he handed the bag over to the Hospet Town Police Station.
The police later returned the jewelry to its rightful owner, Mudukappa. In recognition of his integrity, the Vijayanagara district police honored Raghavendra for his commendable act of honesty.
