22 villages in the district urged to remain vigilant as water seeps into houses. District Collector M. S. Diwakar conducted a thorough inspection of Hospet on Wednesday morning, addressing the issue of water seepage into houses despite heavy rains. He promptly issued instructions to resolve the problem immediately.
On Wednesday, a report emerged about water entering four houses near the Basavanna canal, close to Ramakrishna Lodge, and causing standing water around the nearby 60-bed hospital. In response to this alarming situation, the District Collector took prompt action by postponing a scheduled meeting and immediately rushed to inspect the affected area. Residents expressed their frustration as the city council had not yet resolved the problem.
During the inspection, Manohar Nagaraj, who was at the site, praised the scientific construction of the culvert but noted a water flow problem caused by silt accumulation. Urgently addressing the issue, he instructed the municipal commissioner to initiate immediate removal of the silt to ensure proper water flow.
The culvert posed a significant challenge, leading to water accumulation around the hospital and adjacent quarters. The District Collector, accompanied by officials, visited the hospital premises and witnessed the foot-deep mud situation. During the inspection, he ensured that the hospital staff wore their ID cards and interacted with patients to gather feedback on essential facilities. Patients raised concerns about the lack of a sufficient RO water unit for household use. The DC promptly advised officials to address the issues raised and take necessary actions accordingly.
