With the Christmas and New Year festivities in full swing, tourists struggle to find available rooms in hotels, resorts, and guesthouses around Hospet. Many travelers are returning during the day after failing to secure accommodation.
Hospet, the district headquarters of Vijayanagar, is surrounded by several popular tourist spots, including the World Heritage Site of Hampi, located just 10 km away. Other nearby attractions include the Daroji Bear Sanctuary, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Biological Park, the Tungabhadra Reservoir, Anegondi, and Anjanadri, the birthplace of Lord Anjaneya. These destinations are now witnessing a surge in visitors, both domestic and international, as well as pilgrims.
During this holiday season, demand for hotel rooms has skyrocketed, leaving many tourists without a place to stay. This increase in demand has also led to a rise in prices, with room rates, which typically range between Rs 2,000-4,000, now climbing to Rs 8,000. Complaints have also surfaced regarding middlemen charging excessive fees for securing rooms, adding to the financial strain on tourists and pilgrims, especially those traveling from distant locations.
