The historic town of Hampi in Karnataka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will be one of the key venues as the Ministry of Culture celebrates the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY) with sessions at 100 iconic tourist spots and 50 cultural sites across India on June 21.
These events will complement the main celebration in Visakhapatnam, organized by the Ministry of Ayush, which will be attended by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Pawan Kalyan, and other dignitaries.
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, will mark the occasion at the historic Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
In addition to Hampi, other major heritage sites include Charaideo Maidam (Assam), Rani Ki Vav and Dholavira (Gujarat), Pattadakal (Karnataka), Khajuraho Group of Monuments and Sanchi Stupa (Madhya Pradesh), Sun Temple at Konark (Odisha), Elephanta Caves (Maharashtra), and the Brihadisvara Temple (Tamil Nadu).
Cultural sites like Golconda Fort and Salarjung Museum (Hyderabad), Humayun’s Tomb and Purana Qila (Delhi), Jallianwala Bagh (Amritsar), Chittorgarh and Kumbhalgarh Forts (Rajasthan), Leh Palace (Ladakh), Pari Mahal (Srinagar), Bekal Fort (Kerala), and Hazarduari and Cooch Behar Palaces (West Bengal) are also among the chosen venues.
The Ministry’s attached offices, subordinate bodies, and autonomous institutions are coordinating this nationwide initiative, reinforcing the connection between India’s rich cultural heritage and the age-old tradition of yoga.
