As Covid-19 cases continue to rise, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa indicated on Friday that the state would need to shut down completely.
A complete lockdown might be necessary because people have failed to obey COVID guidelines, and cases are on the rise. Yediyurappa said that the state government will decide on a full lockdown in just two days.
Karnataka has been registering a high number of regular Covid-19 incidents, second only to Maharashtra, during this crisis. On Thursday, Karnataka’s active caseload surpassed 500,000, with 49,058 new COVID-19 infections and 328 new deaths, bringing the total to 17,212.
Experts from different quarters have suggested strict rules and lockdown models in Karnataka to keep a lid on the Covid-19 cases. “We will see a peak in Karnataka in at least two weeks,” says Dr. Giridhara R Babu, professor and head of Life Course Epidemiology at the Public Health Foundation of India.
