District Administration Gears Up to Recreate Vijayanagara’s Glory; 50 km Stretch from Hospet to Hampi Lit Up for Utsav

The Vijayanagara District Administration has completed major preparations for the upcoming Hampi Utsav by arranging a massive 50-kilometer-long electric light display from Hospet city to Hampi. This extensive illumination, one of the longest ever arranged for the festival, is set to be the main attraction this year and aims to recreate the grandeur of the Vijayanagara Empire.

The 50 km stretch, starting from the Vijayanagara District Office in Hospet and extending up to the Virupaksha Temple in Hampi via Kamalapur, has been decorated with thousands of decorative lights. Unlike previous years, this time the illumination is not limited to monuments alone but covers main roads, public spaces, and important junctions across the region.

Garland-style lighting has been installed from Bangalore Road to Saibaba Circle, while continuous rows of lights line Central Bus Stand Road, Railway Station Road, Bangalore Road, and Bellary Road. Major circles, including Valmiki Circle, Ambedkar Circle, and Kanaka Circle, have also been illuminated. The Kannada University campus, Kampli Road, and the Kamalapur Lake area form part of the 50 km lighting corridor, offering visually striking night views.

The entire Hospet–Kamalapur–Hampi road has been transformed into a glowing route, making night travel during the festival a special experience. Historical streets and monuments in Hampi are also part of the 50 km illumination plan, creating a festive and heritage-rich atmosphere.

Preparatory work has been underway for several days, with multiple teams working continuously to install, test, and maintain the lighting system along the entire 50 km route. The ancient streets and monuments are already reflecting the festive spirit as the festival approaches.

Vijayanagara Deputy Commissioner Kavita S. Mannikeri said that the district administration has made special efforts this year to ensure that the 50 km illumination becomes a major highlight of the Hampi Utsav. She added that all departments are working together to provide a memorable experience to tourists and visitors.

The administration expects that this large-scale lighting arrangement will attract more tourists and further enhance Hampi’s status as a world-famous heritage destination.
