Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa has filed a bail application after spending 100 days in judicial custody in connection with the Renuka Swamy murder case.
Darshan and his alleged associate, Pavithra Gowda, have been in custody since June. Recently, Darshan’s legal team submitted the bail plea to the 57th Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge in Bengaluru, with the case likely to be heard on Monday, September 23.
Currently held in Ballari Central Jail, the actor decided to apply for bail after consulting with his legal team. The Kamakshipalya police have filed a 3,991-page charge sheet against 17 individuals, including Darshan.
Following the charge sheet submission, Darshan’s team proceeded with the bail application, though other accused, including Pavithra Gowda, have had their bail requests denied. They are expected to reapply before the end of judicial custody on September 30.
Meanwhile, Darshan’s family plans to file a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) against Ballari prison officials, alleging inadequate facilities for the actor. However, prison officials refute the claims, stating Darshan is being treated according to prison regulations and has been provided with amenities like a TV and a surgical chair.
Darshan remains in custody for his alleged involvement in the murder of his fan, Renuka Swamy, reportedly following derogatory comments made by Swamy about Pavithra. Allegedly, Darshan had the victim killed through hired henchmen.
