The central government has given the green light for the excavation of prehistoric and ancient sites in Tekkalakote, following recommendations from an expert panel, confirmed Dr. R. Shejeshwar, Deputy Director, Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, Hampi and Kamalapur.
“A site near Bale Thota in Tekkalakote, close to Gowda’s Corner and Hireharla, has been marked for excavation. A team of five experts will oversee the excavation and research work,” he said.
Prof. Namita S. Sugandhi, co-director of the excavation and affiliated with Hartwick University, USA, noted, “This excavation is significant for the study of prehistoric life. A similar effort was last undertaken in 2015.”
The excavation team also includes Prof. Vinayak from Azim Premji University, Akash Srinivasa from Ashoka University, Mihir Thangasali from Mohali, Vaishi Roy, and researcher Ashok Abakari. Delhi Assistant Collector Devendra Singh Chaudhary is also associated with the project.
