Hampi, the renowned World Heritage site in Karnataka, has clinched the prestigious title of “Best Tourism Village of India-2023” as declared by the Ministry of Tourism. This accolade, announced on World Tourism Day, not only enhances Hampi’s reputation but also signifies a significant milestone for the state. The recognition in the “Best Tourism Village Competition-2023” by the Central Nodal Agency, Rural Tourism, and Rural Homestay, under the Ministry of Tourism, showcases Hampi’s excellence in nine key aspects of tourism.
From a pool of 795 applications spanning 31 states and Union Territories, Hampi emerged as the standout choice for this esteemed award. The State Government’s Tourism and Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, HK Patil, lauded this achievement as a moment of pride. The honor bestowed upon Hampi will also translate into increased funding for rural infrastructure and cultural preservation, aligning with the state’s aspirations for development.
With this recognition, Karnataka’s authorities have newfound opportunities to bolster rural tourism and promote the establishment and operation of homestays, offering tourists an authentic village experience. This initiative not only fosters tourism but also showcases the rich tapestry of rural arts and crafts, luring visitors seeking an immersive cultural encounter. For Karnataka, this accolade serves as a catalyst to promote agriculture and rural tourism.
In tandem with World Tourism Day celebrations, the department has spearheaded a cleanliness and awareness campaign across nine locations, including the Bhoganandishwara Temple in Nandi village, Hampi, Pattadakal, Belur, Sringeri, Somanathpur, Melukote, and Srirangapatna. Furthermore, the department organized an electric bike rally aligning with this year’s theme, “Green Investment,” emphasizing the commitment to sustainable tourism practices.
