A potentially fatal incident was narrowly avoided in Hospet during the Ganesh Visarjan procession when a man attempted to ignite a firecracker box by placing it on his head. Police intervened in time and later registered a case against him.
The incident occurred on the third day of immersion near Jamia Masjid in Hospet city, Vijayanagar district. The man, identified as Thirumalanaik (40), created panic among devotees with his reckless act.
Sub-Inspector S.P. Nayak of Hospet Town Police Station rushed into the procession and quickly pulled down the firecracker box, preventing a major mishap, eyewitnesses said.
Although tragedy was averted, the police have taken the incident seriously. A case has been filed against Thirumalanaik at Hospet Nagar Police Station under Section 126 of the Prevention of Violence Act. Authorities have urged the public to refrain from such dangerous stunts during festivals.
