In a disturbing incident in Ballari, a 19-year-old youth was assaulted by a group of college students for allegedly posting a minor girl’s photo as his WhatsApp status. The incident took place on July 27 within the premises of an ITI college near Radio Park in Ballari city. The victim, identified as Doddbasava, had uploaded the girl’s image on his status, which reportedly enraged her elder brother.
A heated argument broke out between the two, eventually leading to a violent attack later that day. The girl’s brother, along with a group of around 10 students, allegedly assaulted Doddbasava on the college campus using fists, legs, a cricket bat, and a belt. The victim sustained injuries to his lips, jaw, chest, ribs, and waist.
What has shocked many is that the brutal assault was filmed by the girl’s brother, and the video has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread condemnation. A case has been registered at Cowl Bazaar Police Station against ten individuals, including Shashikumar and Saikumar.
All the accused, who are students of the same institution, have been arrested. Doddbasava, also a student at the college, was treated at a hospital and has been discharged. The incident has caused public uproar in Ballari, raising concerns about rising student violence and the irresponsible use of social media in educational settings.
