Ballari Doctor Abducted for Rs 6 Crore Ransom, Released next day with ₹300 for Bus Fare After Failed Negotiation

A pediatrician from Ballari’s district hospital, Dr. Sunil, who was abducted during his morning walk on Saturday, was released unharmed on Sunday. The kidnappers released Dr. Sunil in a field at Somasamudra in the Siraguppa taluk and even gave him Rs 300 for bus fare, instructing him to go home safely. The abductors had initially demanded a ransom of Rs 6 crore in gold bars.

The incident occurred near the 1st Cross in Satyanarayanapet when four unidentified men forced Dr. Sunil into a car and sped away. Using his phone, they contacted his brother Venugopal, escalating their demands from Rs 2 crore to Rs 6 crore. During captivity, the doctor was assaulted, with his hands and feet tied and a cloth stuffed in his mouth.

Frightened by the ransom demand, Venugopal alerted Ballari SP Dr. Shobha Rani, who coordinated with the neighboring district police. Realizing the authorities had been informed, the kidnappers abandoned Dr. Sunil in a field at Somasamudra in Siraguppa taluk, handing him Rs 300 for bus fare and advising him to return home safely.

Dr. Sunil was treated for minor injuries and released. SP Shobha Rani stated that further inquiries would be conducted after recording his statement. She also noted that Venugopal, who serves as the district liquor merchants’ association president, might have links to the kidnapping, a lead under investigation.

The police are examining possible insider involvement and connections to Venugopal’s business dealings while continuing their search for the kidnappers.
