Shobha, a resident of Hospet, filed a complaint at the town police station on Wednesday, accusing five individuals from the Priyanka Mahila Pattina Sahakari Sangha of defrauding her of crores of rupees by promising money dubbing and subsidized loans. Three of the accused have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
The arrested individuals include association president Priyanka Jain (33), field worker Venkateshalu (45), and secretary H.M. Andanaiah (29), who were apprehended on Thursday. Authorities are still searching for two other accused, Vasthimal Jain and Rahman, who reside in Ballari.
Priyanka allegedly took money from the Women’s Cooperative Society in installments, promising that the government would provide a subsidized loan within two months and that she would double the deposited money in another scheme within 70 days. A case has been registered, revealing that approximately 300 people from Hospet and surrounding villages have been cheated of around Rs. 3 crore.
