A controversy has emerged in Hospet following allegations of financial misconduct at a college in Hospet, where ₹10 lakh is said to have been embezzled using fake GST bills. The funds, allocated for office expenses during the 2023-24 financial year, were reportedly spent in a single day across three transactions involving suppliers in Bangalore and Tumkur district. Concerns have been raised about the legitimacy of these purchases and the whereabouts of the materials supposedly bought.
A complaint has been filed with the Lokayukta by an RTI activist and state leader of the Republican Party of India (RPI), demanding a thorough investigation. The activist has urged the authorities to withhold the former administrator’s retirement benefits until the allegations are resolved. Local leaders have also been asked to intervene, with calls for immediate action to address the issue and its impact on the institution’s declining enrollment.
The acting administrator has confirmed that critical information regarding the purchases has not yet been transferred, leaving the existence of the ₹10 lakh worth of materials in question. The accused has denied any wrongdoing, stating that the items are accounted for and will be handed over to the acting administrator. However, they have claimed ignorance regarding the alleged GST discrepancies.
This case has drawn attention to the misuse of public funds in educational institutions, with stakeholders emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability. As the Lokayukta initiates its inquiry, the outcome is expected to provide clarity and ensure justice.
