As the number of Black fungus cases in the district surges slowly in the districts of Vijayanagara and Ballari, the VIMS has set up a separate set of doctors and specialists to treat the Black fungus cases in the district.
So far, 41 cases of Black Fungus cases have been detected in the district so far, and 6 people have lost their lives to it. In the districts of Ballari and Vijayanagara, the number of cases has been seeing a reduction slowly, but the cases related to Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) has created a matter of worry among the people.
The strategy adopted by the district in the detection of Black fungus cases is a three-stage phenomenon. This infection is found in the Covid infected patients, who have recovered from COVID and those who use steroids. Although it is not an infectious disease, it still can have a profound impact on a person’s health. Treatment last for about 6-21 days.
The injection that is used to treat this infection is considered to be costly and as of now, the state government has been supplying it. To treat the Black fungus, two separate wards named ‘Negative’ and ‘Positive’ has been set up at VIMS. The district currently has demanded 200 injections, while the state government has provided only 10 of them.
A total of 6 specialists groups including, Medicine, Anesthesia, Ophthalmology, ENT, and NeuroSurgery have been formed to treat this deadly infection.
Cases of Black fungus infection have been found in the Ballari, Hosapete, Harapanahalli, Hadagali, Kudligi, taluks.
