The Karnataka Mining, Environment and Reclamation Corporation (KMERC) has approved a ₹476 crore project to supply drinking water to Hosapete in Vijayanagara district. Local MLA H.R. Gaviyappa advocated for the initiative, which sources water from the Tungabhadra reservoir via the Ray and Basav canals. The infrastructure includes an 84 million-liter purification unit, extensive pipeline networks, and automated monitoring systems to ensure sustainable water access for residents.
KMERC also approved a separate ₹100 crore project to extend water supply to all villages in the taluk using the same purification unit. District Magistrate Kavitha S. Manikere stated that a detailed study will be conducted to prepare the Detailed Project Report following the corporation’s consent.
