Silt Accumulation in Tungabhadra Reservoir: Alternative Plan Discussion Underway, Says Ramalinga Reddy

Water Resources Minister Ramalinga Reddy stated that the Tungabhadra reservoir has accumulated 31 TMC of silt, and discussions are being held with the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to explore alternative plans for water storage. The minister added that the newly constructed 33 crest gates at the Tungabhadra reservoir will be officially inaugurated on June 25. The event will be attended by the Union Minister of State for Power, and the Chief Ministers of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, where the long-pending demand for the Navali Reservoir Project will be discussed. Reddy emphasized that the Tungabhadra issue is an inter-state matter and should be resolved through mutual dialogue to avoid unnecessary disputes. He also mentioned that the construction of the Navali reservoir would be unfair to the states. Regarding the Bidadi Township project, Reddy said it is a project that the BJP wants, and it was proposed by former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai in the budget. The current rainfall deficit in the state will not cause any issues with drinking water supply, and necessary precautions are being taken.
